I am currently a second year Ph.D. student studying modern Chinese history at UC Berkeley. My research focuses on the circulation of merchants and anti-Japanese activists between China, Taiwan, and Japan during the early to mid-20th century. I grew up in the South Bay (Morgan Hill) in California and completed my bachelor's degree in international relations in 2004 at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.. After graduating I spent one year in Taiwan studying Mandarin Chinese, and then returned to the US to complete a master's degree in East Asian Studies at Columbia University. After another year in Taiwan doing intensive language study, I moved to Boston where I worked as a teaching fellow at Harvard University for a course on modern Chinese history (the Cultural Revolution).
